Homewood was organized as a Village in 1893.  It is located 22 miles Southwest of the Chicago loop.  Homewood is a village in Cook County which consists of four townships – Thornton, Bloom, Rich, and Bremen.  The Illinois Central Railroad had a stop called Thornton Station where passengers were traveling to or from Thornton but the name was later change to Homewood.

Homewood and Flossmoor established institutional partnerships in 1959 where they opened Homewood-Flossmoor High School which has been highly rated.  They also opened a joint park district in 1969.

In 2007 Homewood was rated one of three most “livable” suburbs in the Chicago Metropolitan Area by Forbes Magazine. Living in Homewood provides a suburban feel with 77% of families owning their homes and 23% renting. Many young professionals live in the village.

Amktrak rail provides service from Homewood north to Chicago Union Station and south going to Kankakee through Tennessee and Mississippi to New Orleans.  Metra Electric rail service also goes north to Millennium Station in Chicago and south to University Park.

There a lot of coffee shops and parks in Homewood and  five golf clubs in the area.
